Nasi Goreng

Method

This traditional Indonesian dish is a great one for using up any cooked meat or vegetables – make it as spicy as you like for a delicious, fragrant meal.

  1. Add the sesame oil to a wok or large frying pan over a high heat.
  2. Add the chicken, red pepper, beansprouts, red onion and greens into the pan and toss frequently to ensure everything is cooked through.
  3. Add in the rice and reduce heat to medium. Stir well to ensure the ingredients are mixed well.
  4. Add the prawns and red chilli and stir thoroughly.
  5. Add the sweet chilli sauce, soy sauce and fish sauce into the mixture and stir thoroughly. Turn off the heat.
  6. In a separate frying pan, heat a little more sesame oil and pour in the beaten egg. Spread it out to cover the pan and cook for 2 minutes on each side.
  7. Place the fried egg onto a chopping board and roll into a cigar shape. Finely slice the egg to create thin strips.
  8. Stir the egg strips into the rice mixture.
  9. Serve the Nasi Goreng with a sprinkle of coriander and enjoy straight away.

  • 2 tbsp sesame oil

  • 200g cooked chicken, shredded (or raw chicken breast)

  • 1 red pepper, sliced

  • 100g beansprouts

  • 1 red onion, finely sliced

  • 200g greens – e.g. cabbage, pak choi, broccoli, spinach

  • 100g cooked prawns (optional)

  • 400g cooked rice

  • 1 red chilli, sliced

  • 1 tbsp sweet chilli sauce

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tsp fish sauce

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • Handful chopped coriander
